Often the journey to a holiday destination can add major stress. Spending hours in the car, or rushing around an airport, can mean arriving on holiday more frazzled than when you left.

We’re almost conditioned to believe that travelling for at least a few hours goes hand in hand with a trip away. The need to get away from daily life and routine.

A recent weekend break within Cornwall made me realise that you don’t need to travel far to have a holiday. After less than an hour and a half in the car, we’d arrived at sunset to the most amazing view – in January! Far enough to not be tempted to dip into home life, but close enough that the journey whizzed by.

The biggest plus was exploring another part of the county that we rarely visit. A different coastline and beaches, but also new pubs and cafes to sample. At no point did we need to cross back into familiar territory.

When it was time to head home, there was no long-journey dread – we were home again by lunchtime, feeling well-rested and relaxed.

Travel time within the county could easily be less too. The north and south coasts are wildly different – so if you live near one shoreline, perhaps consider a break on the other. There’s always something new to see!

Whilst we don’t have quite the right landscape or snowfall for skiing in Cornwall, or the guaranteed sunshine hours and warmth of abroad, thousands of people flock here every year for their holiday(s). So before signing up to a long journey as part of your next holiday, it’s worth considering your own doorstep? We can highly recommend the Falmouth area!
