Cornwall has long been a popular holiday destination, even more so in recent years. But with so many lovely areas to stay and visit, why choose Falmouth as your Cornish holiday base?

Here are our top reasons for staying in the harbourside town:

    Centrally located for exploring

Falmouth and its surrounding villages are found in mid-Cornwall, on the south coast. At just over an hour away from the Cornwall-Devon border and the same to the country’s most south-westerly point at Land’s End – it’s centrally located for exploring all that the county has to offer.

Visitors to the town can even take a day trip across to the Roseland, via a water taxi. A crossing which goes directly from the centre of Falmouth to within a few metres of places to eat and drink in St Mawes – perfect for those who want to try a different mode of transport!

    Brilliant beaches

There’s a great selection of beaches in and around Falmouth to explore. From dog-friendly to easily accessible and sandy to tucked away, there’s sure to be a beach to suit! Beaches on this coast are more sheltered, with usually calmer seas – perfect for families and those keen for a swim. Falmouth Bay is also a great spot for SUP, diving, fishing and sailing too.

Our favourite beaches to visit in the area include Gyllyngvase, Maenporth, Flushing and Grebe.

For those who want to experience the more rugged coastline and wilder seas of the north coast, it’s as little as a 30-minute drive away by car.

    Great places to eat

Falmouth has long been celebrated for its stunning harbour, but in recent years it’s really caused a stir as a culinary destination within the county. With a whole host of beach-side cafes, restaurants and pubs to choose from, the town has it all. Specialising in freshly-landed seafood, there are also plenty of options for vegetarian and vegan dishes to choose from.

Some of our favourites include Gylly Beach Café, Star & Garter, The Wheelhouse and The Cove Restaurant & Bar. Head slightly further out of town to Restronguet Creek and you’ll find one of our favourite places – the Pandora Inn.

    Must-see events

Falmouth hosts many events throughout the year, both on and off the water. From the Sea Shanty Festival and Fal River Festival at the beginning of the summer to Falmouth Week in August and Falmouth Oyster Festival in October – the town is often a hive of activity, with plenty to see and do. The whole family can get involved too, with most events being suitable for all ages.
