Top Tips For Spring Cleaning Your Holiday Let

Written by Pass the Keys | May 10, 2023 10:00:00 AM

Spring has finally sprung and with new lighter evenings and milder weather, there has never been a better time for a spring clean of your holiday let to give it a new lease of life. Follow our top tips on how to spring clean your holiday home below:

1. Sweep the chimney

If you have a wood-burning stove, make sure to arrange a chimney sweep to ensure all is clear after frequent use in the winter months. Remember to restock firewood supplies as guests may wish to use the stove on cooler spring evenings.

2. Replenish the stocks

Now is the perfect time to replenish old items that are looking a little worse for wear e.g., bath towels, pillows, bedding, sofa cushions and throws. Replacing tired-looking items shows that you are an attentive host, and these things are often picked up on in reviews.

3. Take an inventory

It might not be the most exciting task but taking an inventory and replacing any broken or missing items will come in very handy when you are rushed off your feet in the summer months. You could also buy a few extra items of glassware and light bulbs for when you have a frequent guest turnover.

4. Refresh the property

You may already have a list of odd jobs you’ve avoided during the winter, but its time to get the paintbrush out and paint over scuffs and marks, to dust bust the property off all the cobwebs it acquired in winter and to give some TLC to skirting boards and other hard to reach places.

5. Safety check

As a host, you can never be too safety conscious and as you spring clean, take the opportunity to check all alarms are working correctly, both inside and outside the property. Ensure all gas safety certificates and fire risk assessments are up-to-date and that your paperwork is organised. Why not take the time to review your insurance policy and shop around to see if you can get a better deal?

6. Green fingers

If you have any outdoor space, the chances are it has been abandoned during the winter, but with the milder weather, its time to show your garden some love. It’s the ideal time to pressure wash patios, decking and pathways, brush the cobwebs off garden furniture, plant some spring bulbs and mow the lawn. If you have a hot tub or swimming pool, book a deep cleaning service ahead of the high season.

7. Refresh marketing material

Before the rush of the summer months, why not take a moment to refresh your online listing, add some new photographs and take note of any new additions to the property? If your holiday let has a welcome pack, ensure the information is up to date and still relevant.
