Sydney Gardens Park – Natural Water Play

This recently renovated playpark is located in the center of the city, in the historic Sydney Gardens. With an injection of £3.4m of funds in and around the grounds, the playpark is a hit with locals, which features a very fun natural sand and water play area. The play area has four zones, with local ice-cream pop-ups and an on-site café; this park caters to all ages and abilities and will keep them entertained for hours.

    Sandpits, Moorfields – Paddle Spot

This local green park features a shallow stream running throughout its length, with challenges for children to climb over. Several mature trees provide shade on a hot, sunny day, and add to the rural escape feeling. Hidden at the far end is a waterfall that children can climb up. This is a popular park but never seems to get too busy!

Avon Valley - Mega Paddling Pool

A massive family water fight is planned on 28 August from 2-5 pm at Avon Valley. Based in Keynsham (10 mins drive from Bath), this adventure park is planning its infamous Massive Family Water Fight. Come dressed to get soaked with two large slips and slides, giant ‘refilling stations,’ straw bale pool, water bomb artillery station, sponge stocks, and foam party area. Toddler and Sensory Play Area includes Foam Pool, Water Bead Pool, Balls, and Inflatable Pool Toys. This event gets booked each year quickly, so get set to buy your tickets.

    Longleat - Splash Pad

Situated within the Adventure Castle area of Longleat playpark, kids will enjoy discovering the adventure park with zip wires, climbing frames, tube slides, and a medieval castle. Bring swimming costumes and towels as the castle turns into a Splash Pad. Access is included in the price of a day ticket which gives you access to the safari, river boat cruise, animal parks, and mini-train rides; tickets are available here.

Bradford upon Avon - Paddle Spot

Head to Barton Farm Country Park, located between the River Avon and the Kennet and Avon Canal, and you’ll find the perfect shallow paddling spot for your littles. Nestled between two playparks, some picnic areas, lots of green space, some craft shops, and coffee stops. You’re a stone’s throw away from the train station, perfect for a 10 min train journey from Bath.

The Newt in Somerset – Paddle Spot

Only a few places make you gasp around every corner; The Newt is one of them. Imagine the most beautifully curated gardens and space, with outdoor eating areas, deer walks, and garden kitchens. The food is incredible and varied, from pre-ordered picnic boxes, cakes, and coffees to gelato and fine dining options. Your kids will be entertained with frogs that squirt water, sunflower showers, and a splash area. Membership is required; tickets are available here. Based near Bruton, it’s about a 50 min drive from Bath.

    Warleigh Weir – Swimming Spot

Warleigh Weir is a beautiful outdoor swimming spot in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. However, it gets hectic in the heat of the summer. Driving is not recommended. But cycling and walking couldn’t be more leisurely; only three miles from Bath on the Kennet and Avon Cycle Route. Pack snacks, towels, and suncream.

    Greenbank, Street – Lido

This tree-lined heated outdoor pool is over 80 years old and has a 30-meter-long main pool, a splash pad for the tiny ones, and a kids pool. The lido is in Street (about 45 mins drive from Bath) and has lots of welcome shady trees, perfect for cooling off in the heat. Sadly, they are struggling financially after being closed, so donations are welcome, and general admission fees are incredibly reasonable for this hidden gem.

The Wave – Play In The Bay

Based in Bristol, this pre-booked session is an excellent experience for children to play in the smaller waves, splash around and have fun in the wave pool. Play in the Bay aims to build confidence and encourage the joy of white water, with gentle waves perfect for paddling, splashing, and taking a dip. Whether you are looking for a fun children’s swimming session to enjoy as a family or want to build your water confidence before you jump onto a surf lesson, this is the perfect place to start. This inland surf destination near Bristol is only 30 mins drive from Bath. Sessions are held on certain weekends of the year – so pre-booking is essential.

    The Cleveland Pools

The Cleveland Pools is Britain’s oldest lido dating back over 200 years and is set to open in late 2022. Set in the center of Bath. After almost 20 years of tireless campaigning, fundraising, and meticulous planning, the restoration of Cleveland Pools is almost finished costing over £8m. In July 2022, the flagstones have been laid in front of the crescent; the WC block is completed; and, with the last heavy loads delivered, the crane has been removed. By August, they will clean and test all the pool systems and get the final touches and landscaping underway. Not one to miss in the later Summer months.
