‘Staycations’ became THE thing to do in 2020, after all with the global pandemic there wasn’t much choice.

2021 will most certainly follow suit, with many of us choosing to stay at home this year and explore our great British Isles.

This is great news for us in the short let industry, be it two weeks (or more!) by the sea or in the country, or a weekend city break.

It appears all the industry experts agree too, see these articles from the BBC the Times and many others ‘Staycations’ it seems are here to stay. Here are 5 reasons why staycations will be more popular than ever in 2021.

    Staycation Boom in Chester

    1. The Covid-19 vaccine is rolling out across the country.

In fact, here in Chester, Council Leader Louise Gittings has said she is very pleased with how the vaccination rollout has been going and we are on track to reach all targets. And whilst official figures aren’t in yet, the NHS Accountable Officer overseeing the vaccine roll-out in Cheshire is confident that we will have vaccinated all care home residents and frontline care workers (first dose) by the end of January and the top four priority groups will have been offered vaccines by 14th February.

    2. Pent-up Demand.

People are desperate to get out for a change of scenery after being cooped up for what seems like forever. Matt Hancock has said he will be 'staycationing' in Cornwall this year. I can heartily recommend Newquay, I spent a few summers in the early ‘90s trying to surf.

    3. Key Workers need a rest.

If you’ve been slogging away working at the coal face facing the onslaught of Covid-19, you are very ready and deserving of a break. Once the vaccinations have been delivered and there is a little breathing space, it is expected things will calm down. Allowing these workers to take a breath and hopefully a holiday.

    4. Living expenses for most people have reduced during lockdown.

With lockdown curtailing our spending and people working from home saving on commuting costs a lot of people have actually managed to save money through lockdown. This means people will have more money to spend on going away and exploring once lockdowns are lifted.

    5. There is a new type of worker emerging.

The Digital Nomads. A trend which started in America and has made its way over to the UK and Europe. We all know about seasonal workers who move to where the work is. All a Digital Nomad needs is their laptop so they can work from anywhere with an internet connection. Want to spend summer by the sea and winter in the city? A digital nomad can.
