October Half Term ideas for families – in and around Bath

Written by Pass the Keys Bath | Oct 3, 2023 10:47:46 AM

With Autumn in full swing and October half term only a few weeks away, as Bath parents (and
owners of Bath franchise Pass the Keys), we know how understandably popular Bath is for visitors at
this time of year (especially ahead of Bath’s Christmas Markets!). If you’re looking to visit Bath, or if
you’re a local; we want to share our ideas to keep your family entertained throughout half term. For
all scales of budget, we have you covered.

1. Sydney Gardens and Holburne Museum – Bath’s best city centre park
Sydney Gardens is an expansive Georgian pleasure gardens, within quick reach of the city centre and
the canal, situated behind the Holburne Museum. The hit global series Bridgerton, which reached 82
million people in the first 28 days, had Bath as it’s starring role, and the Holburne Museum was one
of the featured homes and it is one to visit. There are crafts on the ground floor, just outside the
café, which keeps little ones entertained, as well as the permanent museum exhibitions.

After, make sure you grab a freshly brewed flat white (or authentic Greek coffee) at Roasted Lemon
(situated at the West entrance of Sydney Gardens). This family independent Greek cuisine business
is popular amongst locals – particularly the ever-changing cakes and feta and honey parcels. Then
wander through the autumnal gardens to admire the colourful foliage, and be sure to stop at the
newly renovated children’s playpark. The play area has four zones to cater for all ages and abilities
and has been created as part of the £3.4 million park restoration project.

Access to the park is free and admission fee for The Holburne Museum can be accessed here.

2. Brick America LEGO at American Museum and Gardens – Bath’s most beautiful gardens
The American Museum and Gardens is the perfect day out for families of all ages, with lots of
activities onsite, outside and indoors.

Brick America: An Adventure in LEGO Bricks is a must-see exhibition. It’s an off-the-scale creative
exhibition, celebrating favourite USA icons, which invites you to visit, build and play along. Discover
world famous buildings, cityscapes, plus models inspired by films, history, iconic people and all built
for the American Museum and Gardens by LEGO artist Warren Elsmore and his team. There are over
40 LEGO brick models to see.

There is also a dedicated children’s garden and play park, with craft activities in the stables. Be sure
to stop by the awesome American Deli with food that’ll be a hit with littles – especially the ice
cream! Wander through the gardens whilst taking in views across Bath, which are breathtaking.
You can find out more about opening times and admission fees here.

3. Luke Jerram’s floating globe at Bath Abbey
Bath Abbey is hosting Luke Jerram’s touring Gaia Globe, as part of the Treasuring Creation Festival.
Measuring seven metres in diameter, the Globe features detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s
surface and provides the opportunity to see our planet floating in three-dimensions. The Treasuring
Creation Festival focuses on appreciating and caring for our planet. The Globe is suspended
underneath the tower in the centre of the Abbey.

Admission is free however donations are welcomed.

4. Pick your own Pumpkin at Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park
This annually popular event is guaranteed to entertain your family. Grab a wheelbarrow and roam
the pumpkin patch and chose your favourite. There are theatrical performers, fire shows, pumpkin
paintball, slingshot, fire an apple cannon, food stalls and seasonal treats. Pop on your wellies and get
